About The Program

SME4SME, launched in 2010 and fully subscribed by March 31, 2011 has been extended for another full year and there are some exciting changes for the 2012 SME4SME Extension. Projects (like this rapid prototyping) can now attract as much as $100,000 in funding.

All you have to do is ask yourself: If my company had access to up to $100K, world class experts and a multi-million dollar research infrastructure…would we be able to expand, accelerate or achieve a significant milestone fast, better and for less of our own money? If the answer is yes, Apply Now.

This site will be the primary application mechanism for this program. If you are not able to access the online application process, please contact us in order to obtain alternate instructions. The application is intended to be completed either by the researcher or the SME partner. The application document must reflect a results oriented working proposal that is capable of being commenced and completed no later than March 31, 2013.

SME4SME is a program that gets at the heart of technical issues for an SME partner. Applications must demonstrate that the work to be undertaken is central to the product or service offering of the company participant. Applications must also clearly set forth the contribution to be made by the company to the applied research project and where such contributions include contributions other than in cash, those contributions will have to be clearly valued and justified. Finally, the application must demonstrate that there will be a tangible, measurable, impact on the SME partner’s business.

Once received, all applications will be screened by TTBE staff for completeness. Applications meeting the initial screen will be assigned for review to one of three review panels. The panels, one for each of science, medicine and engineering, will have five members drawn from internal and external resources. All reviews are done pursuant to a comprehensive confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement.

Once approved, the company and the researcher will be notified and a meeting will be convened by TTBE to move the project through the Research Contract documentation and agree upon a timetable for the completion of all documentation. SME collaborators will be required to sign the University’s standard form agreement to allow the project work to be commenced. We have estimated that the timeline for an application to work its way through the process will be no longer than four (4) weeks from the date of receipt of the initial application.

If you would like to apply to the program you can either download the application form (PDF) and send to [email protected] or just click on the “Apply Now” button anywhere on the site and you will go directly to the secure application site.
